Cubamusic.com: How did the idea of the band appear?
Gente de Zona: "It all started with an idea of Alexander, when he wrote a song for the rappers of Alamar (a neighbourhood in east Havana) but he only convinced to Michel el Caro and they began as a duet. It happened almost ten years ago".
In 2005 Alexander calls on Jacob Forever and DJ Nando Pro, and a few months later they obtained excellent results with songs like "Soñé", "La Campaña", "Tremenda pena" and "Qué daño". In 2007 David Calzado and his Charanga Habanera presented the album "El Rey de los Charangueros", featuring Gente de Zona in the famous song "El Cañón". During 2007 and 2008 they toured Europe achieving international success as the new kings of the Cuban Reggaeton.
The CD "Lo mejor que suena ahora" has been one of the biggest hits in the United States and Europe, creating a musical revolution.
Cubamusic.com: What's your opinion about the huge success of the album "Lo mejor que suena ahora"?
Gente de Zona: "We are very, very happy, but it means a great responsibility with our new album that will be in the market this year. Don't miss it because many of the themes will pleasantly surprise you. Here, in advance for Cubamusic.com we can say we'll have a song with Orishas ".
Cubamusic.com: You are reggaeton stars in Cuba… how do you feel about that?
Gente de Zona: "Being very popular in Cuba is something we feel so proud. But our music also enjoys great recognition in the Latin community of Europe, Argentina and USA, mainly in south of Florida ".
Cubamusic.com: Now let's talk about your next international tours this year 2009…
Gente de Zona: "Our tour schedule this 2009 includes concerts in Europe, USA, Mexico and Argentina. Next June we'll visit Spain: June 25, Sala Heineken, Madrid; June 26, Sala Cormoran, Valencia, and June 27, Sala Bikini, Barcelona.
