The orchestra was called Conjunto Oriental since its creation in 1956 up to the year 1964 when it took its current name.
The root of the group is the son, which is interpreted in a way that has been defined by some specialists as unique, even if it includes bolero, cha cha cha, guaracha, guaguanco, sucu suco, cumbia, merengue,
rumba, vallenato and other Cuban and Caribbean genres.
